Director of Economic Action - Moderator

Former Director of Intellectual Property at Air Liquide, François-Xavier de Beaufort joined the INPI on 1 September 2021 as Director of Economic Action. Together with his teams in France and internationally, he is in charge of training, raising awareness and supporting companies. This not only involves developing relevant products and services, setting up partnerships and facilitating synergy in matters of industrial property with stakeholders in innovation, but also building on the presence of France within the global intellectual property ecosystem and improving the quality of bilateral cooperation with foreign IP offices. A specialist in industrial property (IP), François-Xavier de Beaufort built his career at Air Liquide, holding the successive positions of head of the financial reward scheme for employee inventors, patent attorney and Patent Manager of the Intellectual Property Division. He has also chaired the French Association of IP Specialists (ASPI) since early 2020. François-Xavier de Beaufort’s strong commitment to training in IP is exemplified by his membership of the board of directors of the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) where he has taught for over ten years while also being a jury member for the French Qualifying Examination (EQF - Patents). Having graduated as an engineer from the ESPCI Paris, a major institution of higher education in industrial physics and chemistry, François-Xavier de Beaufort went on to take a Master’s in Intellectual Property Law and a Diploma in Patent Litigation in Europe from the CEIPI. He also passed the French Qualifying Examination (EQF - Patents) and the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) as a representative before the EPO.
